Passing out a lengthy “Events & Other Activities” list showing what to expect in 2020 in Lincoln and Fort Stanton showed that Wes Meiss, the new Fort Stanton and Lincoln Regional Site Manager, came prepared to the meeting of the Board of Friends of Historic Lincoln on January 16th. After a hearty welcome from the Board, he got right to work by giving special attention to Lincoln County Day in Santa Fe on February 5th. This event will give the Friends group the opportunity to provide information for legislators to discover and discuss the many things the Friends are doing to showcase the Lincoln Historic Site and preserve the countless artifacts and history that are in Lincoln.
Meiss presented the possibility of innovative twice-a-day Guided Tours in both Lincoln and Fort Stanton. In Lincoln, the tour group would visit the Tunstall Store and the Dr. Woods House, hearing the fascinating stories of these historic museums from their guide. Another innovation in the works is audio tours of the Historic Site. Stay tuned for the particulars of these innovations to your visit to Lincoln.
The notable highlight event in Lincoln,”Old Lincoln Days,” takes place August 7, 8, & 9. This year is special because it is the 80th Anniversary of the Pageant. Representatives from the Friends, the Merchant’s Association, and the Pageant committee are busily meeting together and planning for a rousing celebration. You won’t want to miss taking part in this revelry. Already in the works are billboards and various links to this website.
Other events in the coming season are: The Rio Bonito Folk Fest at Fort Stanton on May 16, Lincoln After Dark on June 27 and September 26, Lincoln’s Day of the Dead celebration on October 31, and the Christmas Tea on December 5.
